NS2R

Nankang

The Nankang NS2R is a 120TW semi-slick tire that has become a staple in spec racing series across Europe and beyond, including BMW Compact Cup, MaX5, Civic Cup, and M3 Cup competitions. With its aggressive tread pattern featuring large outer shoulder blocks and minimal grooves, the NS2R delivers strong dry grip and exceptional consistency throughout extended race sessions. The tire features stiff sidewalls that provide precise steering feedback and resist flex under hard cornering, making it predictable and confidence-inspiring for both novice and experienced track drivers. While not the absolute fastest tire in its class, the NS2R has earned its reputation as one of the most reliable endurance options available.

 

Optimal performance is achieved with camber settings between -1.0 to -3.0 degrees and hot tire pressures of 34-42 PSI, depending on vehicle weight and track conditions. The NS2R holds MSA List 1B approval and EU tire labeling certification, making it eligible for a wide range of club racing and track day events. One of the tire's standout characteristics is its wet weather performance—unusual for a semi-slick design—providing drivers with confidence that the tire will perform reliably in damp conditions as well as it does in the dry. This versatility makes the NS2R an excellent choice for unpredictable weather conditions common in European motorsport.

 

The compromises with the NS2R are well-documented: poor performance in standing water, very high road noise at speeds above 35 MPH, and limited ultimate grip compared to premium 200TW options. However, for budget-conscious racers building seat time in spec series or track day enthusiasts seeking a durable, consistent tire that won't break the bank, the NS2R represents amazing value. Its predictable behavior, long wear life, and proven track record in competitive motorsport make it a smart choice for drivers prioritizing consistency and affordability over outright lap time performance.
