Circuito San Juan Villicum Notes

Circuito San Juan Villicum, inaugurated in October 2018, is a modern motorsport circuit located in the province of San Juan, Argentina. Designed by Leonardo Stella, the track was built with the intention of hosting international racing events, quickly becoming a staple on the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) calendar.

The circuit features a challenging 4.266 km (2.651 mi) layout characterised by a mix of fast straights, sweeping corners, and tight hairpin turns. The track runs in a counter-clockwise direction and boasts a significant elevation change, adding to its complexity. The main straight, one of the longest in South America, allows for high speeds and exciting overtaking opportunities. The circuit's technical sections require precise handling and strategic braking, testing the limits of both rider and machine.

Villicum's technical characteristics include 14 turns, 6 left-handers and 8 right-handers. The track width varies, providing multiple racing lines. The asphalt surface is known for its grip, promoting aggressive riding styles. The surrounding landscape, dominated by the arid Precordillera mountain range, provides a stunning backdrop for racing events.

Primarily designed for motorcycle racing, Circuito San Juan Villicum has hosted rounds of the World Superbike Championship since its opening. The track has also seen action from various national and regional racing series, including car racing events. It is equipped with modern facilities, including spacious pit garages, a media centre, and grandstand seating for spectators.

What makes Villicum unique is its combination of a challenging track layout and its dramatic desert setting. The elevation changes, coupled with the demanding corner combinations, create a thrilling experience for drivers and riders. The stark beauty of the surrounding landscape adds to the circuit's distinctive character, making it a memorable destination on the international racing circuit.
