Vietnamese Grand Prix - Hanoi Notes

The Hanoi Street Circuit is a semi-permanent motorsport circuit designed to host Formula 1 racing in Hanoi, Vietnam. The circuit was designed by renowned track architect Hermann Tilke and represents a unique collaboration between Formula 1's Motorsports team, Tilke, the City of Hanoi authorities, and the race promoter, with the FIA granting circuit homologation once satisfied the track design met their Grade 1 requirements. The Hanoi Street Circuit is notable as the first track to be designed by Formula 1 itself in association with Tilke.

The circuit measures 5.607 to 5.613 kilometers (3.484 to 3.488 miles) in length with 23 corners, after being revised from its original design of 5.565 kilometers (3.458 miles). The track features a 1.5-kilometer long straight with expected speeds of 335 km/h through the speed trap and average lap speeds of just over 200 km/h. Construction of the circuit was completed and the facility was ready to host racing. However, despite being fully constructed and homologated, the Hanoi Street Circuit has not hosted a Formula One World Championship event as of 2025. The inaugural 2020 race was cancelled due to COVID-19, and subsequent political complications have prevented the circuit from hosting its planned Grand Prix, leaving it as a completed but unused FIA Grade 1 facility.
