Ladoux Proving Ground (Wet Handling Track) Track Map
More details, lap times & videos for Ladoux Proving Ground (Wet Handling Track)
Ladoux Proving Ground is Michelin's flagship tire testing and vehicle development facility, located near Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne region of central France. Established in 1966, this world-renowned facility has been at the forefront of tire technology development for over five decades, contributing to countless innovations in automotive safety and performance.

The complex spans approximately 450 hectares (1,100 acres) and features an extensive array of test tracks and specialized surfaces. The Racing Circuit within the facility provides a high-performance testing environment with challenging corners and varied elevation changes. This configuration allows engineers to evaluate tire performance under demanding conditions that simulate real-world racing and high-performance driving scenarios.

Ladoux is equipped with over 30 different test tracks and surfaces, including wet handling tracks, ice and snow facilities, comfort and noise evaluation roads, and high-speed circuits. This diversity enables comprehensive tire testing across all conditions and applications, from everyday passenger vehicles to Formula One racing machinery.

The facility plays a central role in Michelin's research and development operations, employing thousands of engineers, technicians, and support staff. The testing conducted at Ladoux covers the entire spectrum of tire development, from initial compound formulation to final product validation. Advanced instrumentation and data collection systems capture detailed performance metrics that inform design decisions.

While primarily a professional testing facility not open to public access, Ladoux occasionally welcomes journalists and industry partners for product demonstrations and technology presentations. The facility's contribution to motorsport is significant, with many championship-winning tires being developed and validated on its tracks.

The Auvergne region's varied climate, combined with the facility's specialized weather simulation capabilities, enables year-round testing regardless of natural conditions. From scorching summer heat to artificial winter conditions, engineers can evaluate tire performance across the full range of temperatures and weather scenarios.

Ladoux Proving Ground represents more than just a testing facility; it embodies Michelin's commitment to innovation, safety, and performance excellence. The knowledge generated here has contributed to making roads safer worldwide, demonstrating how dedicated research facilities drive progress in automotive technology and tire engineering.
