Castrol Raceway - RAD TORQUE RACEWAY

The RAD Torque Raceway, formerly known as Castrol Raceway, is a Motorsports complex paved on Edmonton International Airport's lands, at a 30-minutes ride from downtown Edmonton, Alberta, in Canada. The complex includes a 2.7-km (1.68-mile) Road Course, a ¼ mile NHRA Dragstrip, a 10-acre Off-Road Track,  a 3/8-mile Clay Oval Track, and a 12,000 m2 Drift Pad. The facility opened in 1991, with the oval track, and the road course broke ground in 2013. Edmonton is cold and snowy during half of the year, which means racing seasons start in May and last until October.  Temperature is temperate, with moderate precipitation during the racing season, guaranteeing variable atmospheric and track conditions.

The 1.68-mile (2.7-km) road course in RAD Torque Raceway has 14 corners, most of them with multiple Apexes and tight angles that elevate the technical difficulty of the track and diminish its average speed to 65 mph (104 km/h). These turns alternate with straightaway segments creating acceleration sectors and several heavy braking turn entries like in corner number 2, number 8, number 10, or number 13, to name a few. The Raceway runs clockwise over a flat piece of terrain surrounded by pine trees, and high-performance vehicles travel the circuit at an average lap time of 1:33.4.
