Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit Notes

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is a 2.81-mile (4.52-km) FIA Grade 2 raceway 30 minutes north of downtown Johannesburg, South Africa. Kyalami has hosted high-profile international racing events like the Superbike World Championship or the Formula 1 South African, making it one of the top motorsports facilities in Africa. The subtropical climate of Johannesburg is ideal for racing year-round but is prone to heavy downpours during the warm period from October to March. Winter weather is cool and dry, with some rare occurrences of snow. The 16 turns in Kyalami offer a variety of challenges for drivers, which combine with the elevation changes to create an exhilarating trajectory to run.

Kyalami starts right before The Kink on turn number one with drivers power through it until Crowthorne. A snaking sector of three turns called the Jukskei Sweep leads into the tight left-hander known as Barbeque. Then comes the back straightaway where top speeds can reach 150 km/h (93 mph), a fast-paced sweeper called Sunset, and Clubhouse, a 90-degree left-hander. Turn number 8, The Esses, starts a downhill sector ending in Leeukop, the tightest corner of the circuit. Mineshaft and The Crocodiles continue going downhill at full throttle. The loop closes after Cheetah and INGWE, completing a world-class trajectory worth watching.
