Palanga Circuit

Palanga Circuit, located near the popular Baltic resort town of Palanga, Lithuania, is a temporary street circuit that has become a staple of regional motorsport since its inception in 2000. The circuit is laid out on public roads, transforming the tranquil resort into a challenging and thrilling race venue for a few days each year.

The circuit's layout is characterized by its high-speed nature, featuring long straights punctuated by a mix of sweeping corners and tighter, more technical sections. This blend demands a well-rounded car setup, capable of both outright speed and nimble handling. While considered relatively flat, slight undulations and camber changes in the road surface add to the challenge, requiring drivers to be constantly aware of their car's balance and grip levels.

Technically, the circuit measures approximately 2.682 kilometers (1.667 miles) in length. The track width varies, generally accommodating overtaking opportunities, particularly at the end of the main straight. Safety measures, including barriers and marshal posts, are erected specifically for the event and then dismantled afterwards.

Palanga Circuit is most famous for hosting the "Aurum 1006 km race," a grueling endurance event that attracts teams from across Europe and beyond. The race, which has evolved over the years from 1000 km to its current 1006 km distance, tests the limits of both man and machine. Beyond the endurance race, the circuit also hosts various other motorsport disciplines, including sprint races, time attack events, and drifting competitions, catering to a diverse range of racing enthusiasts.

What makes Palanga unique is its transformation from everyday streets to a high-speed racing arena. The temporary nature of the circuit, combined with its location in a popular tourist destination, creates a unique atmosphere.
