The Ford Mustang TA2 is a purpose-built racing car developed for Trans Am Series TA2 class competition, representing cost-controlled, professionally-constructed racing machines based on modern muscle car silhouettes. TA2 class cars feature tube-frame chassis construction with Mustang-styled carbon fiber or fiberglass bodywork, powered by GM LS3 6.2-liter V8 engines (regardless of brand bodywork) producing approximately 525 horsepower through a Tremec T101 five-speed sequential transmission. The control formula ensures equal equipment across all manufacturers (Mustang, Camaro, Challenger) with differences limited to bodywork styling.
The TA2 Mustang features comprehensive racing components including full roll cage meeting Trans Am safety specifications, coil-over racing suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars, limited-slip differential, racing brake system with large ventilated rotors, 18-inch racing wheels with Hoosier racing slicks, and aerodynamic elements including front splitter and rear wing. Weighing approximately 2,755 pounds (1,250 kg) with driver, the TA2 achieves 0-60 mph in approximately 3 seconds with lap times competitive with GT3 machinery at significantly lower acquisition and operating costs. The TA2 class has become one of America's most popular professional racing categories, offering close wheel-to-wheel competition with 40+ car grids at many events. The control formula limits costs while ensuring competitive parity, allowing teams to focus on driver development, setup optimization, and racecraft.
