Clio Cup
Anmerkungen
The Renault Clio Cup is a purpose-built racing car developed by Renault Sport for one-make championship competition, with various generations corresponding to road-going Clio models. The fourth-generation Clio Cup (2013-2019) features a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine producing approximately 170 horsepower, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters. The control formula ensures identical equipment across all competitors, with FIA-approved safety equipment including full roll cage, racing seat and harness, fire suppression system, and fuel cell.
Weighing approximately 2,334 pounds (1,060 kg) with driver, the Clio Cup achieves impressive performance through lightweight construction, sophisticated suspension with adjustable dampers, limited-slip differential, racing brake system, and aerodynamic bodywork with functional splitter and rear wing. The Clio Cup championship represents one of Europe's most competitive and prestigious one-make series, running for over 30 years with alumni including multiple Formula 1 drivers who credit the series for developing their racecraft and car control skills. The UK Clio Cup, French Clio Cup, and various national series provide intense wheel-to-wheel racing with grids regularly exceeding 20-30 cars, where minimal performance differences between cars ensure that driver skill, setup optimization, and racecraft determine results. Renault Sport provides comprehensive support including arrive-and-drive programs, spare parts availability, and technical assistance. The Clio Cup offers accessible entry into professional-level racing with costs significantly lower than GT4 or touring car categories, while providing genuine racing car performance, close competition, and excellent driver development opportunities for aspiring professional racers and gentleman drivers alike.
