The Hummer brand originated with the AM General's Humvee, a military vehicle. The civilian version, the Hummer H1, was introduced in 1992 and became known for its ruggedness and off-road capabilities. General Motors (GM) acquired the Hummer brand in 1999.
Under GM, Hummer produced the H2 and H3 models, which were smaller and more refined than the H1. These vehicles were known for their distinctive styling and off-road performance, but also faced criticism for their fuel consumption and environmental impact.
GM discontinued the Hummer brand in 2010 following its bankruptcy. However, in 2020, GM announced the revival of Hummer as an electric sub-brand under the GMC umbrella. The new Hummer EV is an all-electric pickup truck and SUV, combining the iconic Hummer design with advanced electric vehicle technology. It is currently in production and available for purchase.
