The Dunlop Sportmax Q2 is an extreme performance summer tire engineered for both track day enthusiasts and spirited street riders. It is designed to deliver a balance of high grip, responsive handling, and reasonable wear for its category.
The Sportmax Q2 utilizes Dunlop's Multi-Tread technology, incorporating a harder, more durable compound in the center of the tire for increased longevity during straight-line riding. The tire's shoulders feature a softer, stickier compound derived from Dunlop's road racing tires, maximizing grip and confidence during aggressive cornering. This combination allows riders to push their limits on the track while still maintaining acceptable mileage for street use.
Dunlop's Intuitive Response Profile (IRP) is implemented in the rear tire, contributing to linear and predictable steering characteristics regardless of lean angle or corner type. The profile promotes a larger contact patch at extreme lean angles, further enhancing grip and stability. The tire carcass is technologically constructed to effectively manage the forces generated by modern sportbikes. The front tire features two nylon carcass plies and two aramid reinforcing belts for improved steering response and braking performance. The rear tire incorporates Jointless Band (JLB) construction with an aramid belt to maintain consistent tire diameter and stability at high speeds.
Compared to its predecessor, the Qualifier, the Q2 offers improvements in traction, responsiveness, and cornering stability. The tread pattern is designed with a higher land-to-sea ratio to maximize rubber contact with the road. The grooves are aligned with the forces acting on the tire while cornering, improving grip and stability.
