Sentul International Circuit Note

Sentul International Circuit, located in Bogor, Indonesia, has been a cornerstone of Southeast Asian motorsport since its inauguration in 1993. Designed by Hermann Tilke, it was initially intended to host a Formula One Grand Prix in 1997, though financial constraints ultimately prevented this from happening. Despite missing out on Formula 1, the circuit has remained a popular venue for a variety of international and domestic racing series.

The circuit's layout is characterized by a mix of high-speed straights and challenging corners. It is a relatively short circuit at 3.965 kilometers (2.464 miles) in length, featuring 11 turns. The first sector is dominated by a long straight leading into a tight right-hand corner, followed by a series of flowing turns. The second sector includes a more technical section with a double apex corner, demanding precision and car balance. The final sector features a sweeping left-hander leading onto the start/finish straight, offering overtaking opportunities. The track is generally flat with minimal elevation changes, making it less physically demanding than some other circuits.

Sentul has hosted a wide range of motorsports, including the A1 Grand Prix, Formula 3, Asian Le Mans Series, Super GT, and various motorcycle racing championships. It remains a vital proving ground for Indonesian racing talent and a popular venue for national racing events. One of Sentul's unique aspects is its relatively narrow track width, which can make overtaking challenging and often leads to close racing. The humid Indonesian climate also adds another layer of complexity for both drivers and engineers, requiring careful consideration of tire management and engine cooling. While not among the most modern circuits, Sentul continues to hold a special place in Southeast Asian motorsport history and offers a demanding and rewarding challenge for drivers.
