The Pontiac Firebird Firehawk represents the ultimate fourth-generation Firebird, developed by Street Legal Performance (SLP Engineering) in partnership with Pontiac from 1992-2002. The Firehawk package transformed the Firebird Formula or Trans Am into a track-capable performance machine through comprehensive modifications. Fourth-generation Firehawks featured GM's LS1 5.7-liter V8 producing 305-325 horsepower in stock form, with SLP modifications including cold air induction, cat-back exhaust, performance programming, and functional ram-air hood increasing output to approximately 327-345 horsepower depending on model year.
The Firehawk package included Bilstein suspension with revised spring rates and dampers, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS performance tires on 17-inch wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with larger rotors, limited-slip differential, distinctive body kit with functional aerodynamic elements, and unique interior appointments including embroidered headrests and numbered dash plaques. The Firehawk weighed approximately 3,472 pounds with performance figures including 0-60 mph in the mid-5-second range and quarter-mile times in the high 13s to low 14s.
