Course de Côte St-Ursanne - Les Rangiers Carte de la piste
Plus de détails, de temps au tour et de vidéos pour Course de Côte St-Ursanne - Les Rangiers

The Course de Côte St-Ursanne - Les Rangiers, often shortened to St-Ursanne, is a legendary hillclimb event held annually in the Swiss Jura mountains. Its history dates back to 1930, with the modern iteration solidifying its place as a premier event in the European hillclimb calendar. The circuit is renowned for its demanding nature, challenging both drivers and machines.

The layout is a classic point-to-point hillclimb, stretching 5.180 kilometers (3.22 miles) from the village of St-Ursanne to the Les Rangiers pass. The course features a relentless series of corners, with very few straights allowing for sustained high speeds. It is characterized by a mix of fast, sweeping bends and tight, technical sections that require precise car control and intimate knowledge of the track. The start is relatively fast, leading quickly into a series of challenging esses and hairpin turns. The surface can be unpredictable, changing with the weather and temperature, adding another layer of complexity.

Technically, St-Ursanne demands a car that is both powerful and agile. High horsepower is needed to conquer the steep gradients, while nimble handling is essential to navigate the tight corners. Drivers often opt for specialized hillclimb setups, with aggressive aerodynamics and finely tuned suspensions. The event attracts a diverse range of vehicles, from open-wheeled formula cars to touring cars and even historic racers.

The primary type of racing at St-Ursanne is, of course, hillclimbing. The event is typically a round of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship and the Swiss Hill Climb Championship. What makes St-Ursanne truly unique is its atmosphere. The picturesque setting, combined with the challenging nature of the course and the passionate crowds, creates an unforgettable experience for both competitors and spectators. The roar of engines echoing through the Jura mountains is a sound that resonates with motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.
