Today was supposed to be the day I brought the Emira to Laguna but unfortunately that car has been at the dealership figuring out a low pressure fuel sensor code.
My friend Chu, kindly offered his M2 for me to take to Laguna. The intent was to get footage he could review and provide feedback. This is a 2017MY OG M2 with the N55 engine. How does this compare to the G87 I had? It feels way smaller and lighter but less rigid (e.g. felt like the body has a bit more flex to it). Overall I prefer it to the G87 and in many ways I like the sound and the power delivery of the N and B series engines...if only they'd shove a B58 into one of these things.
Today was unusually hot, over 90F on track, which made it challenging for tires, brakes and the car's cooling system. Eventually the car will be down on power...this is certainly something BMW addressed with the F87 M2 Competition and the current generation G87 models.
Chu's F87 has the M4 GTS tune for steering, transmission, and stability/traction programming, Apex Wheels with 265 width RT660 (2022 clearance tires), stud conversion, 2-way JRZ RS Pro (purchased used and rebuilt by Elite Performance), Ground Control camber plates, and ride height remains stock (very close to it at least), Pagid RSL29 brake pads with Castrol SRF Brake Fluid. Car has a full interior and I actually found the stock seats to hold me in decently well once the side bolsters were fully inflated.
Overall it didn't take too long for me to get comfortable with the car, chipping away at times each session, working down from a 1:44 to a 1:42, despite rising temperatures. .
