Comparison between a 1:30.7 lap (left) and a 1:26.4 lap (right) in a GT4 RS.

The faster lap starts off with a significant advantage as the exit onto the front straight is 10 mph faster. From there, the faster driver maintains more speed on the entry to T11, and uses more of the inside of the track in the setup for T10. He carries more throttle through T10, and bleeds the additional speed with higher brake pressure during the initial braking phase. Both drivers do a decent job of trail braking towards the apex. In this example, the faster driver is likely giving up some potential speed by turning in for T10 a bit earlier.

At the apex of T10, the faster driver is starting to ramp up the throttle fairly aggressively, but not too aggressively, as there's no release or lift of the throttle before track out. If he did go to the throttle too hard and too early, a lift would be needed to maintain front grip. This confidence in throttle application allows him to carry an additional 6 mph at the track out cone.
