This video features driver Doug Makishima completing a 2:08.553 qualifying lap in his #80 Sealed Spec Miata (SSM) at Thunderhill Raceway on July 25, 2010. This lap was part of an SCCA qualifying session where he achieved P1 in the SSM class and P2 overall.

While a fast lap, it was just shy of his personal best SSM track record of 2:08.243 set earlier that year. Doug notes that both 2:08 laps in this session were strong but not perfect, and he aimed for 2:07s in future runs. He later achieved a new SSM track record of 2:07.57 on September 27, 2010, though without video footage.

Doug also shares a technical observation: shifting to 5th gear on the front straight, as seen in these laps, proved to be less efficient than staying in 4th. The time lost in the 4th-5th-4th shifts and the increased difficulty in timing braking led to inconsistencies.
