This video captures the first Time Trials session for TTB through TTF classes on day two of the NASA race weekend at Motorsport Park Hastings (MPH) in Hastings, NE, held on August 10, 2014. This was my initial experience driving my Honda S2000 at Hastings, though I had previously driven my Mitsubishi Evo (TT1) here in 2013.
The GoPro camera is mounted on the top of the windshield frame, providing a continuous in-car perspective. The video begins as I exit Turn 11, with the first hot lap commencing after rounding Turn 13 at approximately 0:15, leading onto the front straight.
After John S. in his 350Z safely allowed me to pass before Turn 9 (an excellent and safe point for a lower-HP but faster-in-corners car to yield), I attempted to keep pace with Alex M. in his M Coupe. While I could close the gap between Turns 3 and 9 during the initial laps, he would consistently pull away on the front straight and between Turns 2 and 3.
At 4:58, likely due to the excitement of being close to the car ahead, I carried excessive speed through Turn 9, resulting in unintentional oversteer upon exiting Turn 10. This error significantly impacted my lap time, as evident by the immediate increase in the gap to the M Coupe.
My fastest lap of the weekend, a 1:40.479 (verified by AMB transponder), was achieved during this session on Sunday. Although my Trackmaster app/Qstarz 818XT external GPS malfunctioned during this specific session, data from later, slightly slower laps (1:41.59 and 1:41.85) recorded a maximum speed of 104.02 mph and an average speed of 71.31 mph.
Driving my '03 (AP1) Honda S2000 (TTB class), I primarily use 3rd gear throughout the track, downshifting to 2nd in Turns 11 and 13, and upshifting to 4th between Turns 2 and 3 before returning to 3rd gear just before Turn 4. Key modifications include 255/40-17 BFG R1Ss tires on 17" x 9" +63 TSW Nurburgring wheels and KW Variant3 coilovers.
