This video captures a testing session of an experimental VE damper system on a 2013 Dodge Viper GTS at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace). The Stouts have done an impressive job with the track, which now features an outstanding 'long' configuration. This layout skillfully combines the older, bumpy chassis testing section with the new, very rhythmical south loop, resulting in an intoxicatingly good road course. While future plans include replacing the north loop, the current dual character of the track is quite enjoyable, offering a silky smooth new section that truly rewards precision, along with blind approaches and dramatic elevation changes.
The vehicle, nicknamed 'Storm,' is a 2013 GTS equipped with an experimental suspension from Viper Exchange (VE), which is soon to be available to the public. This advanced system utilizes a needle-style valve for infinitely adjustable damping, ranging from 0% to 100% stiffness. The car's sophisticated CAN bus system, comparable to Europe's best sports cars, measures lateral G-forces, forward acceleration, braking, wheel speed, and steering inputs in milliseconds. The tuning process for this session benefited from the expertise of Mike Levitas of TPC Racing, a successful pro racer and dynamics specialist who has collaborated with Ben Keating at Viper Exchange. His experience with programming and tuning late-model racing Porsches was directly applied to the Viper Exchange system, resulting in an incredibly intuitive and natural feel for the car. This lap represents the driver's second time on this particular track configuration, highlighting the car's impressive and easy-going performance.
