The car's performance was initially sluggish due to an accidental full 20-gallon gas tank fill-up, and the weather conditions were worrying with clouds and getting cold. Despite these challenges, the driver focused on improving corner speed, particularly in Turn 1, where the lowest speed was 90 mph. The driver noted that accelerating through the turn could have allowed for a pass earlier in the race.

The race saw a Lotus jump into the mix, affecting lap times, but the driver remained determined to nail each section of the track, ultimately improving lap times and creating a gap from the competition.
