This video captures a track test session in a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport at Motorsport Ranch-MSR Cresson (1.7 mile CCW) on November 25, 2016. The car was equipped with stock 285/335 MPSS tires and G-LOC R10 brake pads on iron brakes, otherwise remaining stock.
The driver, Terry Fair, achieved a best lap time of 1:21.523 on Lap 7, despite encountering traffic and battling significant understeer throughout the session. This lap time was set even with the front tires showing cords and chunking, which contributed to the handling issues.
Earlier testing in August revealed issues with high brake rotor temperatures and fade after just two hard stops with stock pads. While the G-LOC R10 pads improved initial braking feel, the car still experienced severe brake fade after the best lap, leading to an off-track excursion. This highlights the critical need for improved brake cooling for the C7 Corvette Grand Sport on track.
Despite the challenges with tires and brakes, this 1:21.523 lap was the best time recorded for this car in its current setup. Future plans include addressing brake cooling and installing fresh tires to aim for a sub-1:21 lap time.
