This video captures a lap at Pheasant Wood Circuit in Marulan, New South Wales, Australia, driven in a 2021 Honda Civic Type R (FK8). This was the driver's first track day, and the lap time of 1:00.82 was achieved during the fourth session, after learning the track and optimizing car setup.
The Pheasant Wood Circuit is a 1.35km track known for its smooth, grippy surface, tight, twisty, and undulating corners, and a technical back section with a short straight.
The Civic Type R features several modifications, including an Invidia 3" catback and downpipe, Hondata ECU stage 1 tune, Spoon rigid collars and rigid subframe brace, 18x9.5 RAYS CE28 wheels with 265/35/18 ADVAN AD08R tires, DBA 4000 T3 disks, Endless MX-72 pads, and Endless RF650 brake fluid.
The driver, despite having extensive experience in racing simulators, found real-world track driving to be a new challenge. Initial sessions focused on learning the track and managing car limits, including issues with brake temperature. Subsequent sessions involved optimizing tire pressure and brake temperature, leading to continuous improvement and a lap time 4 seconds faster than the first session. The driver is satisfied with the progress and plans to analyze the driving style and car setup for future track days.
A fun fact: the driver is wearing a helmet with cat ears!
