The first event of 2026 with NASA MidAmerica at Hedge Hollow in Missouri. I had the entire drivetrain out of the 996 this winter so I needed to take the car out for a good shakedown. In addition to doing the cam chain guides I also put in a lightweight flywheel and new clutch, no changes to the suspension though. Despite the weather being a bit cool the track was driving fast and then car performed quite well. This is essentially just a track day so unlike other NASA events the full race cars are out there running right along with us, some really fast cars. This was a good lap with a little bit of traffic to work through and a 2:41 is a pretty solid time for me in this car. I ended up doing a bit better in a later session but that lap was just me by myself so not as interesting. What was surprising to me was how I was easily able to beat my previous best time of 2:47 consistently without pushing it at all. Either the car is much better with the lightweight flywheel or I'm a better driver, either way it was a good day on the track. I'm driving my 1999 Porsche 996 with coilovers and 200TW Falken Azenis tires as well as Hawk DTC70 brake pads.
