RX-7 FB

Notes

The Mazda RX-7 FB, produced from 1978 to 1985, is the first generation of Mazda's iconic rotary-powered sports car. It features a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive design and is powered by Mazda's 1.1L or 1.3L rotary engine, known as the 12A and later the 13B. These engines deliver smooth, high-revving performance, with power outputs ranging from 100 to 135 hp, depending on the model and market.

The FB's styling includes a sleek wedge-shaped body, pop-up headlights, and a driver-focused cockpit. Its lightweight construction and near-perfect weight distribution make it agile and responsive on the road, earning it a reputation as a pure driver's car. The RX-7 FB is celebrated for introducing the rotary engine to a broader audience and laying the foundation for Mazda's rotary legacy.

NOTES DE L'ANNéE

1978: The RX-7 debuted as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports car featuring a 1.1L 12A rotary engine producing around 100 hp. The FB RX-7 (known as the SA22C in early years) had a sleek, compact design with pop-up headlights, offering a driver-focused experience. It came with a 5-speed manual or optional 3-speed automatic transmission.
1980: Mazda introduced minor updates, including slight improvements to interior materials and options like air conditioning, power windows, and a sunroof. Performance remained largely the same.
1981: The RX-7 received a slight power bump to 105 hp with adjustments to the 12A engine. Mazda also improved handling by refining suspension tuning and increasing chassis stiffness.
1983: Mazda introduced a refreshed RX-7 with styling updates, including new bumpers, taillights, and a revised front fascia. The GSL trim was introduced, featuring four-wheel disc brakes, limited-slip differential, and upgraded interior features such as leather seats and a premium audio system.
1984: The RX-7 received another significant update with the 12A engine upgraded for better performance and the introduction of the 13B engine (1.3L rotary) in the GSL-SE model, producing 135 hp. The GSL-SE also had fuel injection, improved brakes, and a more refined suspension setup, making it the most powerful and advanced version of the FB RX-7.
1985: The final production year of the first-generation RX-7. Mazda made minor adjustments, with no major changes, as they prepared for the second-generation RX-7 (FC) in 1986.
