Kirkistown Racing Circuit Carte de la piste
Plus de détails, de temps au tour et de vidéos pour Kirkistown Racing Circuit

Kirkistown Racing Circuit, located near Kirkistown in County Down, Northern Ireland, is a compact and challenging motorsport venue with a rich history dating back to 1951. Originally an airfield used during World War II, it was transformed into a race circuit by the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland. The circuit's initial layout was a simple triangle using the existing runways, but it has evolved over the years into a more complex and engaging configuration.

The current circuit layout is approximately 1.46 miles (2.35 km) long and features a mix of fast straights and tight, technical corners. The track is relatively flat, providing good visibility for both drivers and spectators. Key corners include Colonial 1 and Colonial 2, a fast right-left chicane demanding precision and commitment; Debtors Dip, a tricky downhill section; and the final hairpin, a slow, tight turn that often determines the outcome of races. The circuit's narrow width and lack of run-off areas add to the challenge, requiring drivers to be precise and avoid mistakes.

Kirkistown hosts a variety of motorsport events, including circuit racing for cars and motorcycles, karting, and rallycross. The circuit is particularly popular for Formula Ford racing and saloon car championships. It is also a regular venue for testing and driver training days. The relatively short lap length and technical nature of the circuit promote close racing and overtaking opportunities, making it a favorite among competitors and spectators alike.

What makes Kirkistown unique is its blend of historical significance, challenging layout, and friendly atmosphere. The circuit retains much of its original character, offering a raw and authentic racing experience. The undulations and camber changes present a unique test for drivers, rewarding skill and bravery. Kirkistown's passionate community of racers and fans contributes to a vibrant and welcoming environment, making it a truly special place for motorsport enthusiasts.
