Autódromo Eduardo Copello Note

Autódromo Eduardo Copello, also known as El Zonda, is a challenging and historic racing circuit nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains near Rivadavia, San Juan, Argentina. Opened in 1967 and named after renowned Argentine racing driver Eduardo Copello, the track quickly became a beloved venue for national motorsport competitions.

The circuit boasts a unique and demanding layout, characterized by dramatic elevation changes, blind corners, and fast, sweeping turns. Its 3.430-kilometer (2.131-mile) configuration is renowned for its high-speed nature, testing both driver skill and car setup. The track's asphalt surface provides excellent grip, allowing for thrilling racing action. Notable sections include the fast downhill esses, the challenging "Curva del Lago" (Lake Corner), and the uphill run towards the finish line, which requires precise throttle control and bravery.

El Zonda has traditionally hosted a wide variety of racing disciplines, including Turismo Carretera (TC), Argentina's premier stock car racing series, as well as Formula Renault Argentina, TC2000, and various other national championships. The track's demanding nature and spectacular scenery have made it a favorite among drivers and fans alike. While the circuit has seen safety upgrades over the years, it retains its classic character and continues to present a formidable challenge.

What sets El Zonda apart is its stunning location and the raw, unfiltered driving experience it offers. The combination of the high-altitude setting, the challenging layout, and the passionate Argentine motorsport fans creates an atmosphere unlike any other. It's a circuit that rewards commitment and precision, making it a true test of both man and machine, solidifying its place as one of Argentina's most iconic racing venues.
