Trackday 28 in the G87 and back at Thunderhill! I tried out a track day with OnGrid for the first time and they were running both East and West simultaneously. Talk about a busy schedule! you only had 20-40 min break between East and West sessions. But it really is like 2 track days in one! Just make sure your consumables are good for 2 track days.
Unfortunately, the day didn't really go as I hoped. I came here with new-ish Nanking CRSs as the only change since last time I was here. I haven't done West Bypass since October and I'm pretty rusty. I ended up only improving 0.8 sec for new PB of 1.25.4. As I mentioned last time I was here...DAMN you can really feel Miss Monique's 3800 lbs here, and I think this is significant contributor to my Nanking's early demise. I did 3 East and 2 West sessions before I was cut short with the realization that my 2 trackday-old Nankings were DESTROYED! The worst was the right front tire that had completely shredded off the outside shoulder all the way past the chords.
I really needed to buy a race seat but now going to have to spend another $2k on tires.
But still this was a really good idea with OnGrid having both tracks going. You get a lot for the money and you're not sitting around for hours waiting for your next session.
Notes:
- I need a race seat REALLY bad. I was about to pull the trigger on a Sparco Evo seat, but now I have to redirect the money to a new set of tires unexpectedly!
- Day 3 on the Nankings and they are completely done, before I could get in the last East and West sessions. I checked my tires and I couldn't believe that the right front was WASTED Outside should completely delaminated and worn past the chords. Right rear not quite as bad but still worn to belts on outside shoulder. Left front was worn to belts on inside shoulder. left rear not too bad and more evenly worn than the other 3.
- Removed total of 9 PSI, starting day at about 25 PSI and got to about 33-36 hot, which I think should be good. Tire temps weren't too bad, maybe peaking at 180+ deg at some points
- Am I overdriving? I did push too hard a few times resulting in terminal understeer and plowing out.
- I'm running -3.5 deg camber in front...with the wear it looks like it's not enough for 3800 lbs at the limit. Perhaps need to go higher. I think I max out the AST camber plates at -4.0. I'll look into when I get new tires
- Trackday 6 on the EBC RP-X pads. Fronts still have at least another 2-3 trackdays but rears are now toast with about 1 mm left.
- I just bought new Paragon R7 pads so can't wait to see how they perform
- Trackday 13 on the Gyrodisc front rotors, and I need to keep eye on them. the slots in the rotors are almost gone and small cracks all over, but cracks aren't big enough to worry about yet
