Alastaro Racing Circuit

Alastaro Circuit is a motorsport facility situated in Virttaa village in Loimaa, Finland. The circuit was born from a dream to see Formula One cars compete on Finnish soil and was the brainchild of racer Robert Lappalainen, who had won the Camaro Cup in Finland before racing in the USA. The track was built in the 1980s and has undergone significant development over the decades. In 2007, local entrepreneur Tero Tupala purchased the entire facility and began setting it on a more solid footing, obtaining a full environmental permit for operations in 2015.

The track was significantly extended in 2023, growing from its previous length of 2.721 kilometers (1.691 miles) to 4.317 kilometers (2.682 miles). The circuit averages 12 meters in width and features protection areas spread widely, making it suitable for demanding tests of heavy equipment. The facility also includes "jokamiesluokka" (folkrace) racing areas in the same location. From 2015 to 2018, Alastaro served as a venue for races of the former Northern European Formula 4 Championship. The environmental permit obtained in 2015, while securing the circuit's future, also spelled the end of drag racing and truck racing at Alastaro due to concerns about high-powered and diesel fuels potentially leaking through the local water table.
