The 2016 Mazda MX-5 is equipped with new BFGoodrich Rival S 1.5 tires, a change from the stock Bridgestone S001 street tires used previously. Despite driving cautiously, the car achieved a lap time approximately 8 seconds faster than before, demonstrating significant grip and confidence through the turns.

The driver notes that while more speed was possible, this was only their second time tracking the car. The focus was on maintaining large safety margins and developing optimal lines while becoming familiar with the new tire setup.
