This video captures a 1:51.21 lap by the 1997 Mazda Miata, codenamed CM-1027, at Ridge Motorsports Park during an August 2013 lapping event. This was the Chikara crew's final visit to the track for the year, marking an eventful season of data collection and performance breakthroughs.
The event yielded encouraging lap times, including 1:49.7 from the 'Blue Monster' and 1:51.21 from CM-1027, which was in its first year of operation. The CM-1027's lap time was recorded by RaceChrono. The car features a naturally aspirated engine producing over 200 whp and 150 lb-ft of torque (Dynapack), with an estimated vehicle weight of under 2100 lbs (950kg). It runs on 225/45 R15 Hankook Z214-C51 tires (on their fifth event).
Key modifications include Bilstein race shocks, a custom 4-wheel big brake kit with AP Racing CP8350 fronts and adapted FD3S rears, a 1" master cylinder, and adjustable proportioning valve with PFC pads. Aerodynamic enhancements feature Garage Vary components, a custom splitter and mountings, and a custom-mounted 1600mm Voltex Type-II GT-wing with gurney flap.
The Chikara team also gained valuable insights from a major driver mistake in a subsequent lap, where the driver mis-shifted into 4th gear after Carousel (T6) while chasing a GT3 Cup Car. This real-world testing incident provided an important discovery to further enhance their cars. A second part video will illustrate this incident and its aftermath.
