Track day 30 at Sonoma for SpeedSF's Bimmer Challenge Round 2 in the G87. Back at Sonoma again after a couple days at Thunderhill, this time on Vitour P01Rs and with additional front and rear camber. These changes helped me edge out my previous PB by about half a second, for a new PB of 1:44.9 and an optimal lap of 1:43.3.
Thanks to @speedsftrackevents8380for another great track day.
Notes: - LAST track day on stock seats! I now have a Sparco EVO Carbon sitting around waiting to be installed. I better hurry before my cat thinks its a scratching post! - Updated alignment. I maxxed out the front camber plates and now running -4° and about -2.7° in the rear...about additional -0.5° from previous settings - Day 2 on the Vitours P01Rs. Removed total of 7 PSI, starting day at about 25 PSI and got to about 30-34 hot . (Ambient temps were in the 60s the first 2 sessions). Best times seemed to be when tire temps 30-32 PSI. Trying to NOT drive 10/10th the whole session. Backing off when the lap is already blown for whatever reason or trying to do cooldown lap before traffic catches up to me. I think I'll get MAYBE 2 more track days out of them. As mentioned, I may go back to endurance tires as I can't afford to shell out $2k every couple of track days. I'm still paying for kids' college! - Day 8 on the EBC RP-X FRONT pads and they are done. About 2 mm left. - Day 2 on the RP-X REAR pads and all good still - Day 15 on the Gyrodisc front rotors and they're done. I was already past min thickness going into the day. Ordering replacement rings. - Day 24 on the stock rears rotors and they were also already almost 1mm past min thickness. Ordering OE replacements from FCP...only $600 for the pair. I really don't believe spending more for the rear rotors are going to really do anything. - Braking performance seemed to be off today. With worn rotors and front pads, shouldn't be surprised I suppose. There's a few times during day where I totally screwed up T7 and T11 because the braking seemed to fall off. Don't think it's necessarily brake fade, although I think it's time for a fluid flush, which of course I'll do since I'm already replacing pads and rotors. - Continued to run just 5° of rear wing and no problems yet with excessive oversteer. I happen to read some of Verus's documentation on their kit and at without their hood louver, the aero balance is 27% Front even with wing set at 5°. I think T7 to T11 is where the aero helps the most. At current settings, (when I drive ok) I can pretty much go flat out exiting T8a until I have to brake for T10 and not feel the rear getting loose. don't feel the need to give more wing at this time - Also kept MTC to level 3 (used to run level 6). I feel I can get out of turns a little faster without the car cutting throttle. I want to try a few session with MTC 0 next time
