Mercury was a division of the Ford Motor Company, positioned as a mid-priced brand between Ford and Lincoln. It was founded in 1938 by Edsel Ford to fill a perceived gap in the market.
Mercury produced a range of vehicles, including sedans, coupes, convertibles, and SUVs. Some of their most popular models included the Cougar, Grand Marquis, and Mountaineer. Mercury vehicles were typically more upscale and stylish than their Ford counterparts.
Mercury had a limited presence in motorsport, primarily through factory-backed teams in NASCAR and drag racing. The brand was discontinued by Ford in 2011 due to declining sales and overlap with the Ford and Lincoln brands. Mercury is currently defunct.
