Mount Panorama Circuit

Mount Panorama Circuit, located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, is a legendary and challenging motorsport venue. Opened in 1938, the circuit was initially intended as a scenic tourist route, but its undulating terrain and steep gradients quickly made it a natural choice for racing. The 6.213 km (3.861 mi) public road circuit is characterized by its dramatic elevation changes, including the daunting climb up Mountain Straight and the breathtaking descent down Conrod Straight.

The circuit's layout is a unique blend of high-speed straights and technical corners. The first sector, starting with Hell Corner, leads onto Mountain Straight, a steep climb to the crest of the mountain. Skyline marks the beginning of the descent, transitioning into the Esses, a series of tight, challenging corners that demand precision and commitment. The Dipper is a particularly notorious section, a sharp left-hand turn that drops dramatically. Conrod Straight, one of the longest straights in Australian motorsport, allows for incredibly high speeds, often exceeding 300 km/h (186 mph). The Chase, a high-speed chicane added in 1987 to slow cars approaching Murrays Corner, is a significant overtaking opportunity.

Mount Panorama is primarily known for hosting the Bathurst 1000, a grueling endurance race for Supercars that attracts huge crowds and national attention. The circuit also hosts other racing events, including the Bathurst 12 Hour, an international endurance race for GT and production cars, as well as motorcycle racing and various club events. The track's technical characteristics, combined with its iconic status, make it a revered and respected circuit amongst drivers and fans alike. The unforgiving nature of the circuit, with its concrete walls lining much of the track, means that even the slightest mistake can have severe consequences, adding to the drama and excitement of racing at Mount Panorama.
