2001: Introduction of the 996.2 Turbo with a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. It featured an all-wheel-drive system, 6-speed manual or optional Tiptronic transmission, active rear spoiler, and Porsche Stability Management (PSM). Optional X50 package increased power to 450 horsepower.
2002: Minimal changes, with additional interior customization options, updated PCM navigation system, and optional carbon-ceramic brakes (PCCB) introduced for enhanced stopping performance.
2003: Introduction of the 996 Turbo Cabriolet, offering an open-top driving experience with the same performance as the coupe. New optional features included aluminum and wood trim packages for the interior.
2004: Final updates included special edition models like the 40th Anniversary Turbo and continued availability of the X50 performance package. Limited tweaks to the PCM system and expanded color options were offered.
2005: Final year of production for the 996.2 Turbo, with the model largely carried over as Porsche prepared for the release of the next-generation 997 Turbo.
