Note

The Porsche 944 Turbo, also known by its internal code 951, was the high-performance, turbocharged version of the 944, produced from 1986 to 1989. It featured a 2.5L inline-four turbocharged engine producing 217 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque at launch, thanks to a K26-6 turbocharger. The 944 Turbo was notable for being one of the first production cars to feature a computer-controlled engine management and boost system, which helped deliver smooth, consistent power.

The 951 had distinct exterior features, including a revised front bumper with integrated fog lights and an air intake, a rear diffuser, and upgraded "Phone Dial" wheels, giving it a sportier and more aggressive look. Inside, the Turbo shared the 944’s well-appointed interior, focused on driver ergonomics with an array of analog gauges, a central tachometer, and supportive sport seats.

NOTE ANNO

1986: The 944 Turbo (951) was introduced, featuring a 2.5L inline-four turbocharged engine producing 217 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. It came with a K26-6 turbocharger, unique front and rear bumpers, and improved aerodynamics. The Turbo model also featured an upgraded suspension, larger brakes, and unique "Phone Dial" wheels, distinguishing it from the standard 944.
1987: Porsche made minor refinements to improve reliability and durability. The car’s cooling system and transmission were reinforced to handle the turbocharged engine’s power. Options like ABS and heated seats became available, but no significant performance changes were made.
1988: Porsche introduced the 944 Turbo S with a more powerful 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque engine, thanks to a larger K26-8 turbocharger and revised engine mapping. The Turbo S came standard with the M030 suspension package, including adjustable Koni shocks, larger sway bars, and 928 S4 brakes. It also featured a limited-slip differential, the "Club Sport" lightweight forged wheels, and was initially available in the exclusive Silver Rose Metallic color. The Turbo S model replaced the standard 944 Turbo in many markets by the end of the year.
1989: The final year for the 944 Turbo, with Porsche consolidating the Turbo S upgrades into a single "Turbo" model that matched the Turbo S’s specifications. The 1989 Turbo now had 247 hp, the M030 suspension package, and other high-performance components from the previous year's Turbo S model. This year marked the end of the 944 Turbo production, as Porsche prepared for the upcoming 968.
