The Toyota GR86 is a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe developed in collaboration with Subaru, introduced as the successor to the Toyota 86 in 2022. It features a 2.4L naturally aspirated flat-four boxer engine that produces 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque—a notable increase over the previous model’s 2.0L engine. This new engine improves the GR86’s 0-60 mph time to around 6 seconds with the manual transmission, addressing previous complaints about power in the earlier generation.

2022: The GR86 was launched as an improved successor to the Toyota 86, featuring a new 2.4L naturally aspirated flat-four engine producing 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, with a noticeable increase in low-end torque and a faster 0-60 mph time of about 6 seconds with the manual transmission. Other than this Special Edition, the core model remained largely the same, with minor software updates for infotainment and driver-assistance features.
2024: The GR86 continued with no major changes, as Toyota maintained the successful formula of the 2022 model. The car received minor software updates for improved infotainment and slight tweaks to interior materials. Toyota focused on retaining the GR86's reputation as an accessible, well-balanced sports coupe.
