My fastest lap from Rd. 1 of the 2026 NSW Supersprint Series held at One Raceway on the reverse Shelley layout.
**(my racebox had a fit and didn't record the start point of the lap so thats why only some of the data comes in part way through the second corner)
Its good to be back in action in 2026! My first event of the year and the first round of the 2026 Supersprint season. No real upgrades to the car (yet) for the 2026 season, just a few maintenance items and fixes. I have however picked up a tyre sponsor with Rydanz coming onboard and supplying me with a set of their Revimax R50 tyres. I'll be testing them all year and providing my thoughts and feedback on them.
This was my first time driving the reverse CCW Shelley layout and despite knowing the normal CW Wakefield layout like the back of my hand the reverse layout was quite a challenging and new experience. I found it hard to get in a groove and picking the correct lines and braking points took some getting used to. This probably comes down to driving a new track, trying new tyres, a rusty driver that hasn't driven in a couple months and non ideal conditions (i think i got all the excuses in haha). Even looking back at my onboards theres things i want to test out for next time.
Temps were quite high all morning and session 1 was used basically as a scouting session. A best of 1:09.15 was quite far off where i thought i'd be time wise but that just meant there were things that could be improved. Each session after, i took some time out as i worked out lines and gearing and eventually netted a 1:08.12 in session 4. I guess that is one positive to take form the day. I kept improving session on session and dropping a few tenths each time i went out. A mid 1:07 is definitely achievable and i want to go back soon to get that!
An afternoon storm rolled through shortly after i did the above lap and cut the day short unfortunately.
At the end of competition i was 12/84 overall and placed 3rd in my TA1 class. A good start to the season and with some fast cars competing this year i have my work cut out for me but i'd like to see some P1 or P2s next time out. With two rounds at SMSP in April i'll have a busy few weeks but we will see how we go!
