Atom 500

Notas

The Ariel Atom 500 V8, introduced in 2010, represents an extreme evolution of the Atom platform featuring a bespoke 3.0-liter John Hartley-designed V8 engine derived from mating two Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engines. Producing 500 hp (475 hp in production specification) and 268 lb-ft of torque with a redline exceeding 10,000 rpm, the 90kg (198 lb) V8 is paired with a SADEV six-speed sequential gearbox. With a final production weight of just 550 kg (1,213 lb), the Atom 500 achieves an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio of 678 kW/t (909 bhp/tonne), delivering 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 168 mph.

Featuring carbon fiber body panels and aerofoils, chromoly aerofoil wishbones, Alcon four-piston brake calipers, and Dymag magnesium wheels, the Atom 500 represents the pinnacle of minimalist performance engineering. On January 23, 2011, the Atom 500 set the Top Gear test track lap record with a time of 1:15.1, making it the fastest road-legal car on that track for over two years. Only 25 units were handbuilt by Ariel, establishing the 500 V8 as one of the most exclusive and extreme road-legal track weapons ever created.
