Notes
The Subaru BRZ Limited represents the premium trim level of Subaru's rear-wheel-drive sports coupe developed in partnership with Toyota (sold as Toyota 86/Scion FR-S). The first-generation BRZ (2013-2020) features Subaru's naturally aspirated FA20 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 6,400-6,600 rpm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The boxer engine's low center of gravity contributes to exceptional handling dynamics and near-perfect 53/47 front-to-rear weight distribution.
The Limited trim adds premium equipment including dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and push-button start, leather-trimmed sport seats with heating, automatic headlights, fog lights, and enhanced audio system compared to base Premium trim. Weighing approximately 2,840 pounds, the BRZ emphasizes balanced handling and driver engagement over outright power, with responsive steering, well-tuned suspension, and accessible limit handling that rewards smooth, precise driving technique. The BRZ has become immensely popular in amateur motorsports including autocross, time attack, and club racing due to its balanced chassis, aftermarket support, and affordable performance. The partnership between Subaru and Toyota (with Toyota providing D-4S dual injection system expertise) created one of the most dynamically pure affordable sports cars of the 2010s, offering classic rear-drive sports car character in an era dominated by turbocharged all-wheel-drive performance vehicles. The BRZ's focus on handling balance and driver involvement over straight-line speed has earned it comparison to classic sports cars like the original Mazda Miata and BMW E30, establishing a dedicated enthusiast following.
