GTV6

The Alfa Romeo GTV6, produced from 1981 to 1987, represents introduction of legendary Giuseppe Busso-designed 2.5-liter 60-degree V6 engine into handsome Giugiaro-styled coupe body creating one of most characterful sports cars of 1980s. The SOHC 12-valve V6 displacing 2,492 cc (152.1 cubic inches) produces 160 horsepower (158 bhp / 118 kW) at 5,600 rpm delivering 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.5 seconds. Initial versions utilized six individual carburetors while later models adopted more reliable Bosch fuel injection improving drivability and consistency. The V6 engine earned "Violin of Arese" nickname for glorious exhaust note, with EVO magazine declaring it "most glorious-sounding six-cylinder road engine ever" in August 2011. The transaxle layout with rear-mounted transmission and De Dion rear axle provides near 50/50 weight distribution.

The Busso V6 engine introduced in GTV6 continued production through 2005 in various Alfa Romeo models with displacements growing to 3.2 liters, establishing lasting legacy as one of automotive history finest engine designs.
