Red Ring-Krasnoyarsk Notes

The Red Ring is a 1.34-mile (2.15-km) raceway paved in the outskirts of Krasnoyarsk, a strategically-located city with 1 million inhabitants in central Siberia, Russia. The remote location of the race track, near the geographic center of Asia and hundreds of miles away from any considerable water mass apart from the Yenisei River, means there are extreme climatic differences between summer and winter. Temperatures as low as -33°C (-29°F) or as high as 30°C (87°F) throughout the year are normal in Krasnoyarsk. The summer racing season goes from late May to early September. The track surface tends to be wet in summer and covered with snow in the colder months.

The 8-turn trajectory of the Red Ring Krasnoyarsk is fast-paced and favors aggressive driving, with plenty of overtaking opportunities at various stretches of the track. Races start/finish near the beginning of the front straight, with racers pressing the gas pedal deep to gain momentum and get to the top positions. Turn number one is a 90-degree corner followed by a tighter bend at number two. After a short straight comes a highly technical sector with five snaking corners that put drivers' abilities through a test. Finally, the multi-apex corner eight ends in the re-entry point of the main straight, where the highest acceleration stretch starts, and racers can unleash their passion for top speeds.
