Circuit De Mornay Notes

Circuit de Mornay, nestled in the rolling countryside of central France near the town of Mornay-sur-Allier, is a captivating and challenging motorsport venue with a rich history. Originally conceived in the 1960s as a private test track for Michelin, it was later opened to the public, offering a unique blend of high-speed sections and technical corners that reward precision and bravery.

The circuit boasts a 2.53-kilometer (1.57-mile) layout, characterized by its undulating terrain and diverse corner types. The first sector features fast, flowing curves, demanding a well-balanced chassis and confident driver. The middle section tightens significantly, with a series of hairpin turns and chicanes that test braking performance and car control. The final sector opens up again, culminating in a long, sweeping corner leading onto the start/finish straight, allowing for overtaking opportunities.

Technically, Circuit de Mornay is known for its varying asphalt surfaces, providing differing levels of grip across the lap. This, combined with the elevation changes, requires drivers to constantly adjust their approach and find the optimal line. The circuit is relatively narrow in places, adding to the challenge and demanding respect. While lacking the grandstand capacity of larger circuits, Mornay offers excellent spectator views from the surrounding hills, creating an intimate and engaging atmosphere.

Throughout its history, Circuit de Mornay has hosted a variety of racing disciplines, including GT racing, touring car competitions, and club-level events. It also remains a popular venue for testing, track days, and driver training. What truly sets Circuit de Mornay apart is its authentic, old-school character. It provides a raw and unfiltered driving experience, far removed from the sanitized nature of some modern circuits, making it a favorite among drivers who appreciate a genuine test of skill and machinery.
