This video captures a 2015 Corvette Z51 completing a lap at the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit. The footage was recorded on May 21, 2017, during a Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs western region event. After participating in a slalom race where the driver won their class and achieved Fastest Time of the Day, participants had the opportunity for fun runs around the full track.
The driver was part of a group of ten, following an instructor and another fast driver in a 2015 Z06 on racing slicks. The course is described as technical with some nice sweepers, and speeds reached over 170 kph on the straights. Due to no-passing rules, the driver maintained position even when the lead Z06 experienced overheating. The driver also noted high engine temperatures, possibly due to following closely in dirty air and not removing the front license plate for better radiator airflow. This was a common issue during extended track sessions, unlike single-lap slalom runs.
The event was well-organized by the Victoria Corvette Club and hosted by the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit.
