This video documents a challenging weekend at the SCCA Tire Rack Time Attack Challenge held at Carolina Motorsports Park. The track surface proved to be exceptionally slick, feeling like an "ice rink" during the summer heat, making traction a constant battle even with 700+ horsepower.
The BMW G87 M2, equipped with AMS Performance intakes, showcased impressive power, dynoing at 762.1 HP and 669.3 ft-lb. Despite the car's capabilities, the low-grip conditions meant running on Map 2 initially, struggling to find traction out of corners. Even with 100tw tires and maximum power later in the day, managing rear slip through the complex sections of the track was a significant challenge.
The goal for the weekend was to push for a 1:33 lap time, aiming to challenge Andy Hollis's McLaren 720S record. While the track conditions made it difficult for all competitors, the M2 consistently improved, ultimately securing the fastest lap in its class with a 1:34.200. The car performed exceptionally well, enduring back-to-back hot laps in 80-90 degree weather without any issues, a testament to its robust setup and the performance upgrades from AMS Performance. The aero package also provided immense confidence through the track's high-speed kink.
The event highlighted the unpredictable nature of track conditions and the skill required to adapt. Despite the difficulties, the team was proud of the M2's performance and its significant margin over other competitors.
