Notas
The fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28/SS, produced from 1993 to 2002, represented GM F-body platform final evolution before the nameplate hiatus. The 1993-1997 Z28 featured the LT1 5.7-liter (350 ci) V8 with aluminum heads and iron block, initially producing 275 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, upgraded to 285 hp in 1996 with dual catalytic converters. The 1998-2002 Z28 received the revolutionary LS1 aluminum-block 5.7-liter V8 producing 305 hp, representing a 95 lb weight reduction over the LT1 while delivering more power. The SS package, built by Street Legal Performance (SLP) under GM contract, boosted power to 320-327 hp through performance exhaust and hood-mounted ram-air induction with distinctive hood scoop.
Performance was impressive for the era: Z28 models achieved 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds with quarter-mile times of 14.2 seconds, while SS variants delivered even stronger acceleration. Transmission options included 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic (1993-1997) or 4-speed automatic with the LS1 (1998-2002). The fourth-generation Camaro featured modern styling, T-tops or convertible configurations, and served as Mustang primary competitor throughout the 1990s. The combination of affordable V8 power, strong aftermarket support, and proven F-body chassis made these Camaros popular for both street performance and motorsport applications, establishing the LS1-powered variants as particularly desirable for their lightweight aluminum architecture and tuning potential.
