Honda
Fit Jazz GD
Notes
The Honda Fit (known as Jazz in some markets) GD generation represents the first-generation compact hatchback produced from 2001-2008, introducing Honda's innovative "Magic Seat" system and establishing the Fit as one of the most space-efficient and versatile small cars globally. The GD Fit features Honda's 1.3L or 1.5L i-VTEC inline-four engines, with the base 1.3L producing approximately 83 horsepower and the sportier 1.5L delivering around 110 horsepower, paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
Despite modest power output, the Fit's extremely lightweight construction (approximately 2,358 pounds) delivers surprisingly engaging driving dynamics with responsive handling, excellent visibility, and impressive fuel economy. The Magic Seat system allows the rear seats to fold flat, fold up theater-style, or recline, providing exceptional cargo versatility in a compact footprint. The tall roof and upright seating position maximize interior space, offering surprising passenger room and cargo capacity rivaling larger vehicles. The Fit earned acclaim for its brilliant packaging, reliability, fuel efficiency, and B-segment handling dynamics that made it enjoyable to drive despite humble performance figures. The GD generation introduced the Fit formula that would make it one of Honda's most successful global models: maximum interior space, minimum exterior dimensions, excellent fuel economy, and reliable Honda engineering. The Fit Type R variant (not sold in North America) featured upgraded suspension, larger brakes, and 105 hp 1.5L engine, becoming popular in European hot hatch markets. Today, the first-generation Fit remains popular among enthusiasts seeking affordable, practical, reliable transportation with surprising driving enjoyment and Honda's legendary build quality.
