La BMW E36 325is è una variante coupé sportiva della terza generazione della Serie 3 di BMW, prodotta dal 1992 al 1995 per il mercato nordamericano. La sigla "is" indicava la carrozzeria coupé più sportiva con equipaggiamenti migliorati rispetto ai modelli sedan standard. È equipaggiata con il motore M50 aspirato da 2,5 litri a sei cilindri in linea, che eroga 189 cavalli (192 PS/141 kW) a 5.900 giri/min e 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) di coppia a 4.700 giri/min, trasmettendo la potenza alle ruote posteriori tramite un cambio manuale a 5 marce di serie.
Il telaio E36 rappresentò un’evoluzione significativa nell’ingegneria BMW, offrendo una dinamica di guida migliorata, una guida più raffinata e un equilibrio complessivo superiore rispetto alla generazione precedente E30. Grazie al carattere aspirato del motore a sei cilindri in linea, alla trazione posteriore e a una costruzione relativamente leggera, la 325is garantiva un’esperienza di guida coinvolgente che l’ha resa popolare sia nella guida su strada sia nelle applicazioni amatoriali nel motorsport. L’auto raggiungeva una velocità massima di 145 mph (233 km/h) e offriva la classica dinamica di guida BMW che ha definito il marchio negli anni ’90. La E36 325is è stata sostituita nel 1995 dalla 328is, dotata di una versione più grande da 2,8 litri del motore a sei cilindri in linea BMW.
