Audi
S4 B9
Notes
The Audi S4 B9, produced from 2016 to 2024, represents the high-performance variant of the ninth-generation A4 featuring a revolutionary turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine co-developed with Porsche. The EA839 engine utilizes a hot inside V layout positioning cylinder head exhaust ports, exhaust manifolds, and single twin-scroll turbocharger inside the V of the engine for optimal packaging and thermal efficiency. Producing 354 PS (349 hp/260 kW) at 5,400-6,400 rpm and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) from 1,370-4,500 rpm, the turbocharged V6 delivers 0-62 mph acceleration in 4.7 seconds for the saloon and 4.9 seconds for the Avant estate, with electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The US-market model achieves 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
Paired exclusively with ZF 8HP55a eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission and ubiquitous quattro all-wheel drive system, the B9 S4 provides brutally effective performance across all conditions. The 2019 facelift introduced a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 option in European markets producing 347 PS (342 hp/255 kW) and impressive 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) torque. The combination of modern forced induction efficiency, Porsche-developed engine technology, advanced transmission, and Audi all-wheel drive expertise makes the B9 S4 a compelling M340i alternative, offering genuine sports sedan performance with premium comfort and everyday usability. The platform established Audi capability to compete directly with BMW and Mercedes-AMG in the performance mid-size segment.
