Charterhall Airfield Примечания

Charterhall Airfield, located near Duns in the Scottish Borders, boasts a rich motorsport history dating back to its use as a Royal Air Force (RAF) training base during World War II. Following the war, the airfield was repurposed for racing, with the first events believed to have taken place in the early 1950s. While a precise opening year for motorsport is difficult to pinpoint, it quickly became a popular venue for both cars and motorcycles.

The track layout utilizes the former airfield's runways and perimeter roads, creating a fast, flowing circuit. Notable sections include the long, sweeping 'Airfield Straight' where high speeds are attainable, and the challenging 'Jim Clark Esses', a series of quick, linked corners that demand precision and commitment from drivers. The circuit generally lacks significant elevation changes, contributing to its high-speed nature.

Charterhall's circuit length is approximately 1.7 miles (2.74 kilometers). The surface is primarily asphalt, typical of airfield circuits. The track's relatively flat profile, combined with its wide expanses of tarmac, encourages drivers to push their vehicles to the limit. While not as technical as purpose-built circuits, Charterhall presents its own set of challenges, demanding bravery and car control at high speeds.

Throughout its history, Charterhall has hosted a variety of racing events, including club-level car races, motorcycle racing, and hill climbs. It's a popular venue for amateur and semi-professional competitors. The track's unique character stems from its airfield origins, offering a different feel compared to more modern racing facilities. The open layout provides excellent visibility for spectators, while the high speeds create a thrilling experience for drivers.

While specific lap records are not consistently documented due to the nature of the events held there, Charterhall has seen many notable races and performances over the years, contributing to its enduring appeal among Scottish motorsport enthusiasts. The circuit's historical significance, combined with its unique layout, makes it a memorable and challenging venue for racers of all levels.
