The Ferrari 355 F1 Berlinetta, introduced in 1997, made automotive history as the first road car equipped with Formula 1-style electro-hydraulic gearbox management system. Derived directly from Formula 1 technology that debuted in 1989 winning the Brazilian Grand Prix, the innovative F1 transmission used paddle shifters behind the steering wheel to operate the conventional 6-speed manual gearbox, delivering lightning-quick gear changes while allowing both hands to remain on the wheel at all times.
